Who We Are:
-
The Getting Ready Gang—often just called the GRG—is the group of people who quietly carry Laurel from an idea… into a lived, breathing experience.
Long before camp begins, the GRG is already at work—imagining the week, shaping the flow, coordinating the details, and holding the vision of what Laurel can be. And when camp arrives, they’re there too—guiding, supporting, adjusting, and making space for the moments that matter most.
Laurel has always been a volunteer-led community, created not by an organization alone, but by people who care deeply about it
-
✨ What the GRG Does
The GRG plans, builds, and supports every part of Laurel, including:
🌿 Shaping the week — theme, schedule, and overall flow
🏕️ Preparing the space — cabins, meals, supplies, and logistics
🎶 Creating programs — worship, music, kids activities, and gatherings
👨👩👧👦 Caring for community — helping people feel welcomed, included, and supported
🛠️ Holding the details — from registration lists to late-night problem solving
Some roles are big and visible. Others are small and behind the scenes. All of them matter.
-
Being part of the GRG feels a lot like Laurel itself.
It’s:
Sitting around a table months before camp, dreaming and planning together
Working side-by-side—sometimes smoothly, sometimes figuring it out as you go
Carrying responsibility so others can fully rest into the experience
Laughing when things don’t go as planned (because they won’t!)
Watching a moment unfold—a song, a conversation, a quiet kindness—and knowing you helped make space for it
There is structure, but there is also flexibility. There are plans, but there is also room for the unexpected.
-
Laurel is built on something simple and old:
people living, working, and showing up for each other. The GRG exists to support that kind of community—one where shared work, connection, and care are part of the experience, not separate from it
-
The GRG is for people who:
Love Laurel and want to be part of how it comes together
Are willing to take ownership of something (big or small)
Can be flexible when things change
Enjoy working with others, not perfectly—but genuinely
Want to contribute to the spirit of camp, not just attend it
You don’t need special skills.
You don’t need to know everything. You just need to be willing.
-
The Getting Ready Gang is a group of people who help make Laurel happen—together.
And if you’ve ever felt that pull to be part of it…
this is where you step in.
