(Service Project Day outside of Camp)
Introduction
Welcome to our Service Project Day at Laurel Family Camp! This year, we are excited to offer two volunteer opportunities as part of our theme, "The Journey to Loving Your Neighbor." Participants can choose between helping with trail maintenance at Laurel Hill State Park or volunteering at the Children’s Home in Somerset, PA. This guide will help you prepare, stay safe, and ensure a meaningful experience for all.
Schedule
Meet-Up Time: 9:20AM at Rec Hall
Carpool 9:30 AM
Work Begins: 9:45-10 ish am
Work Wrap-Up: 12:00 PM
Lunch at camp 1 pm have Kay and cooks have sandwiches ready for us when we come back (snacks and water provided)
Safety and Communication
Safety Gear: Gloves, hats, sunscreen, and closed-toe shoes are recommended.
First Aid: Each group will have a First Aid Kit and a designated Safety Officer.
Emergency Contacts: A list of emergency numbers will be provided to leaders.
Communication: Leaders will have cell phones for coordination.
Suggested Packing List for Volunteers
Gardening gloves
Sturdy, closed-toe shoes (hiking boots or sneakers)
Reusable water bottle
Sunscreen and hat
Light, comfortable clothing (that can get dirty)
Insect repellent (optional)
Family Participation
Kids 10 and older are welcome to participate with parental supervision or they can stay and do the kids program that day - this may be a lot easier without kids, but enriching if the kids do come.
Teens 15 and older may choose a different service project if parents find an adult to be responsible for teen in the other group.

Trail Maintenance at Laurel Hill State Park
Tasks: Clearing brush, maintaining trails, picking up litter, and basic trail repair.
Location: Designated trail sections within the state park.
