BIG BEAN:

be at camp as early as possible on saturday to get settled into your cabin ... the bean book will be at camp and has detailed instructions ... as long as you follow the instructions carefully, it should go smoothly ... try to get to work on the bean book early in the afternoon so that all clipboards, adult and teen beens will be ready for sorters by dinner time ... be around in evening to make sure everyone has their beans & help with questions... be ready to help directors correct all cards as changes are made before & after posting on sunday afternoon ... run the sort for mini-groups on sunday evening with the help of the directors

be at camp early on saturday ... find out last minute additions to the camper list and hand make cabin signs and mailbox labels for them ... have the laminatedir laminate them ... take a map, tacks and cabin signs around the camp and put up the signs on the cabins in such a way that campers can find their cabins when they arrive ... put labels on mailbox crates in such a way that it is clear which mailbox goes with which label ... everything you need should be in the "signdir's kit"

get trained to use the laminator and laminate any last minute cabin signs and mailbox labels, and anything that the staff asks you to ... it is a position that takes some responsibility because the laminating paper is expensive and the machine needs to be turned off and kept out of reach of little ones.

need to be at camp by saturday eve to sort kids school groups ... get the clipboard from the Big Bean with instructions on how to sort the kids groups and be prepared to run the adult meeting on sunday afternoon to assign leaders to morning kids groups ... you or a "co-kiddir" could be prepared wth activity/project ideas for each age group [to help older teens with evening kids groups as well as adults with morning kids groups] ... your clipboard will also have directions for how to get the teachers and kids matched up every morning after worship ... check with teachers at some point during each morning to make sure that everything is going okay and remind them of the recap of the lecture when their duties are over.

VESPERS SITDIR:

Need to be at camp on saturday to do the initial matching ... get the clipboard from the Big Bean to match young teen sitters with families so that children are safe and well cared for, allowing both parents to attend vespers ... there may be a need for some fine-tuning ... facilitate a meeting sunday evening between parents and sitters as described in the checklist on your clipboard ... keep in touch with the parents to make sure their kids are being well care for, and with the sitters to make sure they are not being taken advantage of [are they being relieved of duty in time for teen vespers, etc.]

Need to be at camp saturday night to do the initial matching.... get the clipboard from the Big Bean and follow directions to match pre-teen sitters with babies so that the babies are well cared for during the morning program, allowing both parents to attend lectures ... there may be a need for some fine-tuning ... check in with parents of babies and be available and aware throughout the week for troubleshooting, etc. ... there may be an adult assigned to the "pre-school" each morning to help you with the monitoring

Put dining hall to bed every night ... at midnight [or whenever curfew is] send teens to bed ... close and lock back door to kitchen, turn off fans and coffeepots in kitchen and dining hall, close and lock east door of dining hall, close and lock south door of dining hall, turn off all lights, exit and close west door ... may be some alterations to these instructions.

Wakes up the camp in the morning ... past methods include ringing the bell, singing "rise and shine", a didgiridoo, a flute, ... make the rounds at 7am from one camp unit to another, going close enough to each cabin to be heard ... don't forget main camp cabins [like the one at the end of parking lot] try not to get lost?

Drive to walmart and/or other stores most if not all days, usually in the afternoon, in order to get nonfoods and occasional emergency food that can't wait till the food buyer goes out the next morning ... keep a shopping list in kitchen that asks for the following information: [1] item to be purchased, [2] name of person ordering item, [3] is item being purchased by and for camp or [4] is it a personal purchase ... will be reimbursed for mileage

COFFEEPOT WATCHDIR:

Makes sure coffeepots are either filled or unplugged ... this job can be shared between an earlybird and a night owl ... keep track of high test, decaf, and hot water pots to keep them filled or turned off & unplugged when empty so they don't get burned out ... all 3 pots cannot be brewing at the same time on the drink bar without blowing a fuse, but one can be brewing while the others are warming ... the cookdir would love it if the early riser were to get morning coffee brewing

Every day, collect from large white "dirty laundry" basket in kitchen, and "dirty bathroom rags" crate in laundry area ... you may want to put a sign on or near machines to reserve a convenient time every day for camp laundry [and your own :) ... wash, dry & fold ... leave green&white and blue&white checkered, lighter green & solid blue cloths in "clean bathroom rags" crate in laundry area,... dark green go up to rec hall [foot washing, etc] ... take all the rest to kitchen ... to know where to put them, see list on wall over silverware counter

keep shelves under drink bar stocked with napkins, cups, hot cups, bowls, plates, and leave the rest in storage ... keep a supply of squat cups and paper towels under counter in kitchen under "silverware" counter ... keep paper towel dispensers in kitchen filled ... make sure there is enough toilet paper in the cooks' bathroom and that the there's lots in the green tub at the laundry area ... keep an inventory of all paper products that are in storage so that cookdir knows what needs reordering

minor handyman work such as replacing light bulbs, fly paper and mouse traps ... ladders, tools, light bulbs, fly paper, etc. are available in center storage ... set mouse traps in walk-in and pantry when needed ... replace fly paper in kitchen and main baths when too full to work well [place open trash can directly under to catch full paper when cut loose] ... if buildings needs fixing, check with ranger contact person or execudir ... we cannot do many repairs due to historical nature of buildings and union status of state workers ...

build fires in the dining hall and rec hall when cool enough ... for enjoyment and to dry floors. JACK'S METHOD: ..............create and/or maintain woodpile on step outside north/west dining hall door another on rec hall north porch ... hammer & wedge is available for splitting ... get burnables from cook, etc ... light fire in at least one end of dining hall in morning after first 2 children have arrived burn cardboard to take the chill out of air lay wooden fires ... keep going till floors are dry.

be mindful of camper comfort and the use of electricity in the rec hall and dining hall ... turn lights on when it looks like people are working in the dark, turn them off when no one is using them ... open windows if it's warm, set up fans if hot ... close windows if it's chilly, ask fire maker to make fires if it's cold and we have wood

at chore time, lead the little kids in useful pursuits like picking trash up off the ground and collecting kindling for the campfire ... try to make it fun ... if there are teens hanging around and being demoralizing, ask them to either join the party or go hang out in the teen cabin until chore time is over .

the mats in the rec hall collect a lot of dirt and dust so it can be helpful to take them outside and bang them against a tree to knock some of the dirt out ... could be the kid choredir leading a bunch of kids in doing this [although worship set-up is happening at choretime] ... you may want to give the tree a hug after it lets you bang the mats against it

makes sure recyclables get collected and delivered ... manage a bin or box for soda cans someplace convenient like the dining hall porch [but further away if attracting bees] ... there are at least four laminated "recycle" signs for you to use ... work with cooks and kitchen manager to collect recyclables without getting in the way ... walmart has a bins for some recyclables ... any recyclables that have been collected but not taken out of camp will go in the dumpster on saturday morning.
