Make sure that the walk-in fridge is turned on, that the chest freezers are plugged in [find out from cook if they are both needed - if not, unplug what's not needed] take inventory of any leftovers from the previous camp and consolidate into upper middle of dining hall fridges

OPENING INSPECDIR

be at camp by about noon on the friday before the 1st week of camp.
get inspecdir's clipboard from the execudir and follow the directions - take to state office before 4pm and ask for copies - return clipboard w/copies to execudir ... if after 4pm, need to take it to a copy machine and get copies before taking it to the ranger station

OPEN STORAGE

get keys from execudir, pray, and then unlock middle storage room. find
first aid kit - have cold packs put in freezer. have truck crew carefully pull containers out of room and transported to the locations indicated by the YELLOW tags ... if no yellow tag, put back in storage. ... unlock mattress room ... give keys back to execudir

CREW DIRECTOR:

have crew take benches down from dininghall tables ... then turn crew
over to the "storage opendir" who will direct them to unpack the storage room and transport its contents to the proper locations, ... then to "mattress masdir" who will ride along with a map as mattresses are distributed to various cabins ... make sure they get fed, and record their hours

on a dininghall table, lay out yellow [and then green] leaves along with sign-up sheet and a pen[cil] ... hand out leaves to anyone whose names are already on the sign-up sheet ... recruit available campers to fill the jobs that need to be done (manage the leaves) until the week #1 recruitdir can take over the job. - keep in touch with core staff to learn what jobs are a priority

know where everything goes, [food items, cooking & serving utensils]
so that you can direct the unloading of food orders and the putting away of dishes as they get washed ... be aware of the various job descriptions for kitchen opening jobs so you can assign volunteers to where they are needed most ... if more volunteers are needed, go tell recruitdir what you need and then get back in the kitchen

GIANT EAGLE PICK-UP:

coordinate with cookdir-dir to find out what needs to be done to set up the account at giant eagle, and how large a vehicle is needed to pick up the original order ... have people with you that can help load at GE and unload at kitchen ... kitchen opener will help direct unloading/putting away

OPEN SOAPS:

3 dish soaps go: 1 on window sill above 2 deep tubs, 1 on window sill above the right-hand of triple-sinks, and1 above cook's sink ... "silverware" G-concentrate goes above left-hand of the triple sinks ... a counter-cleaning spray bottle on left-hand window sill, 1 over double sink and 1 on cook's butcher-block counter ... put a hand-washing soap next to each dish soap and 1 in cook's bathroom ... put 4 table spray bottles on lower hooks at right end of drink bar ...I&G concentrates for floor go on fuse box next to back kitchen door

UNPACK WASH SINKS:

brush cobwebs out of window sills above sinks ... in the right-hand of three sinks place a wire-mesh drain strainer, two teal mini-crates upside down, and one large blue dish tub on top of mini crates ... do the same in middle sink ... place a closable drain strainer in left-hand sink ... large white drying rack goes to left of 3 sinks. ... wire-mesh drain
strainers go in each of 2 deep tubs and big green drying rack goes to their right

UNPACK POTS/DISHES:

spray and wipe all counter space left of triple sinks ... fill the wash sink tub and the rinse tub ... any cooking utensils and serving dishes that fit, can be quickly dipped in the soapy water and then in the rinse water and laid to dry on the counters

UNPACK SILVERWARE:

wash pink&purple knife cups, blue&green tablespoon cups, and little
white teaspoon cups, dry and place on counter near diningroom door. find white cups with holes in them and place on counter to right of sinks - find two-handled silverware washing basket, rinse and place in left-hand sink - follow silverware washer directions above sinks

find folding drying racks, rinse them, and line up end-to-end along counter to left of sinks starting from the corner -follow dishwasher directions above sinks

the truckers should have delivered linens and laundry soaps to laundry area- organize soaps and bathroom stuff and find all linens and pass them trough the washer and dryer [if the washer and dryer have arrived] ... dark green cloths to go up to rec hall [foot washing, etc] ... green/white & blue/white checkered, and lighter green and solid blue STAY IN LAUNDRY AREA, ... take all the rest to kitchen

open dark blue tub marked "men's", remove contents, line with large trash bag and place inside men's room door ... repeat for women's room ... organize the washed green and blue cloths into the milk crate marked "clean bathroom rags" ... follow directions on the 3 bathroom refiller leaves ... put toilet paper rolls in empty green outer baths tub

OPEN DRINK BAR:

unpack large orange drink coolers ... take box of baking soda out ... wash out and fill at least one with cold water ... place on drink bar ... find white [drawer-divider] trays to slide under spout to catch drips ... smaller trays go under coffee pot spouts

OPEN TABLECLOTHS:

with duck tape and a staple gun, ducktape tablecloths to diningroom tables and use the staple gun sparingly [so not so difficult to remove at camp closing] in strategic places like corners to help hold the ducktape on ... there is a large yellow cloth for the picnic table, 13 cloths for regular tables, and one cloth to be laid over [not attached to] the
small camping table

SET UP SILVERWARE DROP-OFF:

find three matching milk crates place them upside down against the wall between the drink bar and kitchen door ... find three off-white wash tubs to place on top of the crates ... make sure the "forks", "knives", and "spoons" labels have been posted on the wall above where the tubs will be

OPEN TRASH CANS:

once each good trash can [with a lid] has been emptied of what was packed into it, line with trash bag [use bags used for packing if still good] ... place lid on it ... place 1 at end of cooks counter near stove, 1 at the other end of cooks counter, 1 near door to kitchen porch, 1 at end of counter near "serving spoon" drawers, 2 in dining room between doors to kitchen, 1out on dining hall porch

OPEN KITCHEN LINENS:

when washed linens have been delivered to kitchen, fold and put nice dish towels on shelf over "silverware counter" find wire basket that hangs from that shelf & put white wash cloths in it ... other nice wash cloths go in other wire basket on windowsill above "washing" sink ... put cooks' aprons in pantry leave other clean linens in 1 [clean rags] of 2 large white laundry baskets that go under "drying racks" counter

SET UP SCHOOL SHELVES:

one of the green "countertops" has been going to the right of the chest freezers and the other to the right of the fireplace ... they are supported by the triangular "boxes" ... the foot-deep-grid-type shelves go to the left of the fireplace ... it tends to be tricky to get them to fit together well because the wood swells ... small boxes support
long boards to make extra benches under the windows.

open up storage containers ... throw out anything that didn't survive the winter ... organize things onto shelves putting basics like paper and crayons in a more prominent or available place than more specialized items ... take note of what basics might NOT be there and get them onto the shopping list in the kitchen [marked "for school"]
